Top Rope & Lead Class

Our Top Rope & Lead Classes are endorsed by the Climbing Wall Association (CWA) which are catered for climbers who would like a comprehensive introduction to top rope and lead climbing set in a controlled gym environment.

Top Rope Class

  • The 3.5 hour class will cover:

    • Tying in with a figure 8 knot

    • Proper belaying techniques on Y-Anchor

    • Climber & belayer safety and best practices

    • Belaying with a tubular & assisted braking devices (ABD)

    • Climbing equipment used for Top Rope

    • Participants will need to be at least 13 years old to join the class.

    • Participant is recommended to have prior climbing experience at any Climb Central facilities. Nonetheless, the class is suitable for participants who are completely new to climbing or have never climbed before.

    • If participant is a first-timer to Climb Central, please arrive 45 minutes early on the day of the class, or prior, to register over the counter. There will be a one-time registration fee of $10.90 (GST incl.), that includes a mandatory safety briefing, which may take up to 30 minutes. Remember to fill in the waiver form before your visit to ease your registration process.

    • Participant needs to sign up and make payment at least 4 days prior to the scheduled class date. Otherwise, please register for any available class in the following weeks.

  • After completing the course, a verification voucher will be issued to each participant at the end of the lesson, which will waive off the usual verification fee of $10.90 (Inclusive of GST). Participants who have met the requisite skill level may take a verification test (to be held on a different day as the course), to be verified as a top rope belayer in our facilities.

    This voucher may only be used for a public booking. Kindly note that the voucher is valid for 2 months form completion of course and normal walk-in rates apply.

    Scheduled verification will take place on selected Fridays on a rotational basis from January 2025 onwards. For more information and to check for availability, please visit our website.

Our Top Rope Class is suitable for beginners who would like a comprehensive introduction to climbing and climbing safety, set in a controlled gym environment. Do note that this is not a certification course.

Lead Class

Our Lead Class consists of a total of two sessions, that runs over two consecutive weeks. It is catered for climbers who would like a comprehensive introduction to lead climbing and climbing safety, set in a controlled gym environment. Do note that this is not a certification course.

    • Lead climbing and equipment

    • Quickdraws and clipping techniques

    • Lead belaying with a tubular device

    • Falling practice

    • Introduction to assisted braking devices (ABDs)

    • Ground practice

    • Belaying practice and positioning

    • Falling practice

    • Recap on clipping practices

    • Participants will need to be at least 13 years old to join the class.

    • Top Rope Verified climbers (exceptions can be given for climbers with prior experience but no verification).

    • Participant will be required to bring their own climbing shoes, harness & chalk. All other equipment will be provided.

    • Personal ABD is highly recommended.

    • Comfortable climbing grade of at least 2 pie (6a).

    • May or may not have lead climbed before.

    • If participant is a first-timer to Climb Central, please arrive at least 45 minutes early on the day of the class, or prior, to register over the counter. There will be a one-time registration fee of $10.90 (GST incl.), that includes a mandatory safety briefing, which may take up to 30 minutes. Remember to fill in the waiver form before your visit to ease your registration process.

    • Participants who are confident lead belaying with tubular devices and only want to learn usage of ABD should sign up for Adhoc Practice instead.

Lead & Top Rope Practice

This Lead & Top Rope Practice session is an interactive session that offers a flexible, unstructured format, focusing on advanced climbing/belaying techniques and the latest equipment in a collaborative setting.

  • The session will cover:

    • Verification Preparation:

      • Enhance your chances of success for verification.

    • Best Practices:

      • Learn about correct uses of equipment and proper climbing techniques.

    • Consult & Guidance:

      • Refine and practice enhanced climbing/belaying techniques that cater to both top rope and lead climbing disciplines or outdoor skills.

    • Latest Climbing Equipment:

      • Get advice with the newest ABDs and other climbing gear, understanding their use and benefits.

    • Climbers will need to be at least 13 years old to join the class.

      • If you are participating in the Top Rope Practice,

        • All equipment will be provided. Nonetheless, the use of personal equipment is highly recommended.

        • You are required to have completed either:

          • Climb Central Top Rope Class

          • SNCS Level 1 (attended long ago / recent but no coverage of ABD)

          • Top rope climb and belayed before (might not have used an ABD)

      • If you are participating in the Lead Practice,

        • You will be required to bring your own climbing shoes, harness & chalk. All other equipment will be provided.

        • You are required to have completed either:

          • Climb Central Lead Class + 1 Practice

          • SNCS Level 2 (attended long ago / recent but no coverage of ABD)

          • Lead climbed and belayed before (might not have fallen / might not have used an ABD) 

      • If participant is a first-timer to Climb Central, please arrive at least 45 minutes early on the day of the class, or prior, to register over the counter. There will be a one-time registration fee of $10.90 (Inclusive of GST), that includes a mandatory safety briefing, which may take up to 30 minutes.
